Minneapolis, MN (July 27, 2018) - Mill Creek Entertainment, the recognized leader in the independent home entertainment industry, will release the groundbreaking, multi-award-winning series "The Shield" on Blu-ray, 10 years after the unforgettable finale aired on TV. This comprehensive Complete Series collection will include all 88 fully restored episodes in high-definition from the series' seven season run and will also include a host of bonus features including an all-new cast reunion, writers panel featurette, and retrospective on the landmark series. Packaged in a premium, collectible Digi-book housing 18 Blu-ray discs, this Special Collector's Edition of The Shield will be available for $229.98 SRP on November 6, 2018.

Controversial, compelling and critically acclaimed, The Shield takes place in a tough, morally ambiguous world in which the line between right and wrong is crossed every day, and the road to justice is twisted. Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Michael Chiklis portrays one of television's greatest antiheros, Detective Vic Mackey, who runs his elite Strike Team under his own set of rules, as he tries to maintain balance in the criminal ecosystem on the streets of Los Angeles.

Creator Shawn Ryan hails this Collector's Edition Blu-ray set "as the exclamation point to the legacy of The Shield." Ryan recalls, "A high-definition restoration was not possible until now." Thanks to a new patented process, the entire series has undergone a 4k transfer and restoration from the 16mm film elements preserving the intentional grit and raw texture that's unique to this series.

"We are thrilled to be able to present The Shield in its entirety, available for the first time on Blu-ray having been masterfully restored in widescreen, high definition," says Barrett Evans, VP of Marketing and Product Development for Mill Creek Entertainment. "The series had a monumental impact on television when it debuted,and its themes and subject matter are still poignant and relevant today."

In celebration of this release, Mill Creek Entertainment is orchestrating a reunion with the principal cast and crew, including Shawn Ryan, Michael Chiklis, Catherine Dent, Walton Goggins, Jay Karnes, Benito Martinez, CCH Pounder, Cathy Cahlin Ryan, Kenny Johnson, David Rees Snell, Paula Garcés, and David Marciano. Also included on this special Blu-ray release will be a writers panel from the ATX Festival featuring Ryan, Kurt Sutter, and Glen Mazzara plus interviews with the executives and critics who framed and followed the show as it changed the television landscape.

The Shield originally aired on FX from 2002-2008. Created by Shawn Ryan, the series won 2 Golden Globe awards, including Best Television Series - Drama, a Primetime Emmy award and 2 AFI Awards for "TV Program of the Year." Pareil, je garderai mes DVD. L'aspect brut et un peu sale va parfaitement au show -ambiance, ville et personnages.

Un peu quand même, non ?

Nan franchement à moins d'un truc bluffant moi je trouve les DVD d'assez bonne qualité pour pas investir dans un nouveau coffret.

Pour le coup, tu fais l'habituelle confusion Blu-ray/HD = image immaculée. Or, pas du tout. Je garderais sans doute mes DVD moi aussi (qu'il faut que je regarde d'ailleurs) car je peux pas tout racheter mais si la restauration est bien faite, les BR seront mieux que les DVD.

C'est comme cette idée répandue pendant des années que la meilleure façon de voir Massacre à la tronçonneuse était la VHS. Or, depuis la sortie de la restauration 4K, on sait que c'était des conneries. Le film n'a jamais été aussi poisseux, aussi suffocant et aussi viscéral.

Je vois ce que tu veux dire, et tu peux avoir raison, si c'est bien fait pour ceux qui découvrent la série ou ne l'ont pas en DVD ça vaudra le coup, mais on parle bien d'un coffret BR et de remasterisation HD, je vois pas la confusion -dans ce cas là je veux bien une explication, je suis pas puriste.

L'erreur est de croire que la HD va rendre l'image "belle", c'est à dire toute propre et lisse. Or, ce n'est pas le cas. L'intérêt de la HD n'est pas tant de rendre "belle" une image mais de la restituer de la manière la plus fidèle et précise possible, dans ses qualités et ses imperfections.
Là où en SD (je parle en général), on avait des images lissées, aux couleurs saturées et faiblement nuancées, la HD et a fortiori la 4K (et les techniques et matériels de restaurations nés avec ces technologies) permettent de retrouver les couleurs d'origines (spécial dédicace Alain Souchon), les textures (épaisseur du grain,...) et les intentions originelles du réal/directeur de la photo.

Dans le cas de The Shield, la série a visiblement été captée en 16mm. Je suis prêt à parier que, si c'est bien fait, l'image sera encore plus granuleuse et aura un aspect encore plus "rough" qu'en DVD.

Merci Val pour l'explication. Je suis toujours aussi surpris de voir que les gens ont l'impression que la HD va rendre une série crasseuse toute propre... C'est justement tout l'inverse...
Faut pas confondre crasse voulue et crasse technique qui n'était, elle, pas prévue à l'origine.

Le coffret HD de Battlestar est un très bon exemple d'ailleurs. X-Files aussi.

Pour le reste, n'ayant pas le coffret DVD, je passerais sûrement à la caisse.

Voilà tu résumes là mon avis. L'aspect grain/docu donne toute l'ambiance à la série, mais c'est pas pour autant que la HD va changer tout ça.
Surtout qu'avec des TV de plus en plus grandes, les sources SD commencent à faire mal aux yeux dans certains cas donc je salue l'initiative. Reste à voir ce que la résultat donnera ici donc.
