DEAD MAN
Jim Jarmusch - 1995

Le dernier des films de Jim Jarmusch que je n’avais pas encore vu et pas le moindre puisque l’un des meilleurs ! J’ai vraiment accroché à ce western métaphysique en noir & blanc où l’on suit le parcours de Johnny Depp vers une mort certaine accompagné d’un indien énigmatique. Comme à son habitude, Jarmusch utilise une mise-en-scène très posée et accorde une place très importante à la musique composée par Neil Young. On a également droit à des seconds rôles de prestige : Robert Mitchum, John Hurt, Billy Bob Thornton, Iggy Pop, Gabriel Byrne. Au final, ce film est vraiment particulier mais totalement enivrant. Il y a vraiment une atmosphère mystique qui se dégage du film. Difficile d’en faire une critique objective car c’est un film très sensoriel. Pour ce qui est des autres films de Jarmusch que j’ai vu récemment, je termine ma rétrospective (il me reste à revoir Ghost dog, Coffee & cigarettes et Broken flowers) et je créerai un topic sur ce réal pour revenir sur ses autres films.

Comment définir ce film sur Bob Dylan ? On ne peut pas vraiment parler d’une biographie mais plutôt d’un film librement inspiré de sa vie. Voici donc un film totalement décalé où Bob Dylan est incarné par 6 acteurs différents selon les périodes de sa vie : Cate Blanchett, Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, Marcus Carl Franklin, Richard Gere et Ben Whishaw. Je retiendrai surtout les superbes interprétations de Cate Blanchett et Heath Ledger ! Encore un film où la musique a une place plus qu’importante puisque c’est elle qui porte le film. Et il est difficile de ne pas aimer toutes ces superbes chansons de Bob Dylan ! Côté mise-en-scène, Todd Haynes reste très sobre et on reste plus marqué par le montage de Jay Rabinowitz (monteur attitré de Jim Jarmusch et Darren Aronofsky). En effet, le film utilise énormément le changement de période et donc le changement d’interprètes à l’aide de transitions très rapides. Bien sûr, on a tendance à s’y perdre un peu mais c’est aussi le but de ce film-kaléidoscope qui nous présente toutes les facettes de cet artiste complexe. Au final, on a encore affaire à une expérience sensorielle où la narration passe au second ordre. C’est donc un film trippant qui ne plaira pas forcément à tout le monde. A noter également la présence d’Ed Lachman (directeur de la photo et co-réalisateur de Ken Park avec Larry Clark) à la photographie, Steven Soderbergh (qu’on ne présente plus) en producteur exécutif et Christine Vachon (c’est elle qui a lancé Larry Clark en produisant son premier film Kids) en productrice. Il n’y a donc que du beau monde sur ce film.

Into the wild
Sean Penn - 2007

Le grand retour de Sean Penn derrière la caméra après ses trés réussis The crossing guard et The pledge (je n’ai pas encore vu The indian runner). Et une chose se confirme : il est aussi bon derrière que devant la caméra ! Voici donc un superbe road-movie où l’on suit les aventures de Christopher McCandless alias « Alexander Supertramp ». Emile Hirsch est vraiment parfait dans le rôle principal et on s’identifie rapidement à son personnage malgré sa façon de penser assez irréfléchie. Sur son chemin, il va croiser des personnages hauts en couleurs qui vont embellir sa vie comme lui embellira la leur. Je m’aperçois d’ailleurs que la trame du film n’est pas si éloignée de celle de Dead man. Il faut également parler des superbes grands espaces américains qui servent de décor au film. Le réalisateur arrive à leur donner un rôle important dans le film comme sait si bien le faire Terrence Malick. Le film est à la fois un hymne à la nature et un hymne à la vie. Quant au thème de l’anticonformisme, j’ai trouvé qu’il était traité avec beaucoup d’intelligence en évitant les stéréotypes. Et on voit que le parcours du héros est un voyage initiatique car la dernière citation du film « Happiness is only real when shared » (Le bonheur n’est réel que quand il est partagé) est en contradiction avec le style de vie du personnage qui a donc évolué. Au final, j’ai trouvé que ce film était une totale réussite et il risque bien de finir dans mon top 3 à la fin de l’année.

D'accord pour insomnia qui m'a soulé, mais la fin de the pledge, tu veux vraiment pas prévoir, le film est loin d'etre parfait et soufre de longueur mais il est plutot sympa quand même
