En tout cas intriguant de voir Bale et Blanchette dans les deux projets.

Terrence Malick's recent burst of creative energy is sort of staggering. After completing just four films in forty-two years, he has dropped two films in two years (2011's "The Tree of Life" and 2012's "To the Wonder"), with "Knight of Cups" wrapping up, "Lawless" about to begin and an ambitious documentary that is still being worked on. Screen Daily talked to Malick's producers, Sarah Green and Nicolas Gonda, about his recent endeavors (including "To the Wonder," which just premiered in Venice – our man on the scene loved it) and what's going on with the movie Malick is currently tinkering with (including when we can expect that documentary).
Green admitted to Screen Daily, "I don’t know whether anyone can fully explain the creative force. But he’s certainly on a roll. He’s very inspired right now. I expect it has something to do with the team that has formed around him, and the connection he has with them. He has developed a system that he knows works for him." In other words: don't question it, just go with it. As usual his projects tend to be shrouded in mystery, but Green offered a bit of detail about the subject matter of at least one of them.

"We recently finished shooting 'Knight of Cups,' which is about the LA movie business. Our untitled film, the one set against the music scene in Texas, will begin shooting in a few weeks. It was called 'Lawless' but we agreed to give that name to John Hillcoat." She then noted that, "Both films star Christian Bale and are set in the contemporary world. We’ll edit them simultaneously and FilmNation is on board both. We consider FilmNation partners on all of Terry’s films going forward."

Green then cleared up where in the process is "Voyage of Time," the documentary feature that spun off from the beginnings-of-the-universe stuff from 'Tree of Life' (last we heard Brad Pitt and Emma Thompson were on board to narrate). Well, that is a little further away. "There are large parts shot already but it’s a multi-year project so there’s a way to go yet," Green said. "Terry has been envisioning it for several decades."

But that's not all for Malick. Gonda added, "I’m also producing 'Green Blade Rising' with Terry. The film is about the difficult youth of Abraham Lincoln. A.J. Edwards is directing and Diane Kruger will play Lincoln’s mother. We’re due to start production in a couple of weeks."

In other words: the unstoppable Malick train will keep on chugging! As for "To the Wonder," it heads into TIFF with no U.S. distribution deal in place, but we figure an announcement isn't far off now.

Les fous ils vont laisser Malick editer ses deux prochains film en même temps.

You also recently worked with Terrence Malick. What was that like?
Well, I did two Malick films. I did "Knight of Cups" and "The Green Blade Rises" [which Malick produced]. "Knight of Cups" is the one with Christian Bale. Look, 'Green Blade' Terrence had been working on that for a while, like twenty years. And A.J. Edwards, who directed it, shoots all the second unit stuff for Terry's films and edits them. It's about Abe Lincoln as a 9-year-old and his father and his two mothers, because his mother died when he was very young. What fascinated him and what fascinates me is how a little boy in the middle nowhere, who was barefoot with nothing and a stern puritanical father, became the leader that he did. The education, the moral gravitas, and the leadership of this kid… and you find out. It comes from your roots.

And what was "Knight of Cups" like?
It was just hilarious! Well Terry is a guy where you get 20 pages of dialogue, this extraordinarily in-depth dialogue, and then you'll learn it and try and shoot it. But Terry's not after anything that's ordained or set up. He's creating an environment where he just wants to capture something that's alive.

Are you in it enough that you can't be cut out of it?
You never know with Terrence Malick. I remember when I told Jess, she said, "Just so you know, you might not end up in the film." There were so many people coming in and out and he's out there doing his thing. There's a craziness and a wonderfulness and a freedom but he's got great motives and aspirations. He's interested in pursuing things.

Bon bai c'est fini, A La Merveille était annonciateur, Malick est en mode easy automatique, il shoote sans scénario (dixit Ryan Gosling) et maintenant il édite plein de films en simultané (je crois pas trop aux 5 films dont parle Gosling) : Knight Of Cups, Lawless, Voyage Of time ....

Si on se retrouve pas avec des films qui sont de simple patchwork bordélique, ça sera un miracle.

Gosling also had the chance to work with Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender and more last summer in Terrence Malick's untitled drama centering around intersecting love triangles within the rock scene in Austin, Texas. The actor said Malick changed his approach this time and also suggested the filmmaker was working on more films than we know about. Malick used to write expansive, beautiful screenplays which he would then essentially discard when he got to set. This time, he didn’t even bother. “No there was no script,” the actor said when quizzed about it. “I think he used to have to write them and now I think they're onto the fact that he doesn't use them anyway so they're not requiring them.”

We asked which Malick film he was going to appear in – two pictures were shot last summer – and we had to double check because you can never be too sure who’s making a cameo where. “I'm in the music one. Fassbender, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Val Kilmer, Patti Smith, Robert Plant, Johnny Rotten, the Black Lips, just I mean every day was unlike anything,” Gosling said.

So just two Malick films on the horizon? Guess again. Gosling suggests there’s more, hinting at the documentary “Voyage of Time” and possibly other projects we don’t know about . “He's doing more than two,” Gosling added. “He's cutting like five movies right now, one of which is about the creation of the universe that he's been working on for the last fifteen years but I'm not in that one I don't think.”

Un type qui expérimente comme cela en toute liberté , moi je dis chapeau. J'en profiterais pareil si j'étais a sa place. Essayons de voir le verre à moitié plein. IL y a tellement d'autres cinéaste pour nous fournir des produits autres, profitons du peux de cinéastes qui on des budgets confortables et de bons acteurs pour se lâcher et essayons de voir cela comme une chance de voir autre chose.

Milk c'est le mec qui suce un realisateur pendant des annees puis survient une deception et la paf c'est tous les futurs projets qui deviennent de moins en moins interessant.

ouai enfin les signes sont là, photo de tournage, interview des acteurs, pour montrer que les deux (5 ?) prochains films de Malick sont dans la mouvance précipité de son To The Wonder.

Un bon film ça se prépare, tu as en a beaucoup des exemples de film réussit fait sans scénario solide, sans préparation avant le tournage ? Il y avait aussi une raison au fait que Malick mette autant de temps à faire ses films, il y avait un vrai travail d’écriture en amont. Là qu'en t'apprend qu'il invente son histoire pendant son tournage, c'est mal parti.

1- Chacun bosse comme il le souhaite.

2- Malick mettait du temps entre ses films pour plusieurs raisons et certaines étaient purement personnelles (Malick ne travaillait pas dans le cinéma à temps plein).

3- L'improvisation, mal vu par certains, est pourtant digne des plus grandes ovations dans l'histoire de la musique classique -pour ne citer que cet art. Un film ça se prépare ? Ouais mais pourquoi faudrait-il qu'il n'y ait qu'une seule manière de "faire" un film ? résumer l'art à des "techniques" etc..c'est l'enfermer dans une cellule de prison mec. L'art c'est la liberté bordel de merde. Tu reçois le truc de l'artiste ou pas on s'en branle mais viens pas donner des leçons à des mecs qui ont fais 6 films et toi aucun. Tu te fermes dès qu'un mec dont tu aimes le travail te déçois. Pour toi un film c'est 145 pages de scénario, Deakins à la photo et 10 ans de travail. Coco réveilles-toi.

4- Depuis quand les acteurs d'un film aiment les films dans lesquels ils jouent ? Pour les besoins de la promo ils léchent le fion du réalisateur, 10 ans après ça retourne des vestes. Pour Malick, vu la liberté qu'il a et vu comment il traite ses acteurs m’étonne pas que certains soient froissés. A l'inverse de Gosling , Afflek est très content de son travail avec Malick.

Tout le monde ne "pense" pas son film comme Spielberg avec 2 ans de pré-prod et 2 semaines de tournage...

On verrait peu de différences entre les cinéastes s'ils procédaient otus de la même façon et qur tu le veuilles ou non, que tu aimes ou non, Malick est le seul à faire des films comme les siens, tu verras pas ce style de mise en scène/montage/narration souvent et encore une fois je le redis mais To the Wonder est un chef d'oeuvre incompris (dans les intentions).
