Exclusive: Grindhouse Comes Together on Blu-ray.
We just love being the first to bring you announcements like this one.
IGN has the official word today that Vivendi Entertainment and The Weinstein Company are working together to bring Grindhouse to Blu-ray in its entirety for the very first time. That's right, on Oct. 5 both main features will finally be available together in one two-disc set in their original theatrical exhibition format, along with those fantastic faux trailers (with the exception of Machete, which turned out to be not so faux after all) and plenty of extras, including some brand new ones never seen before.
This ode to exploitation cinema is made up of two features, Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror and Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof.
In Planet Terror, married doctors William and Dakota Block (Josh Brolin and Marley Shelton) find their graveyard shift inundated with townspeople ravaged by gangrenous sores and a suspiciously vacant look in their eyes. Among the wounded is Cherry (Rose McGowan), a go-go dancer whose leg was ripped from her body during a roadside attack. Wray (Freddy Rodriguez), her former boyfriend, is at her side and watching her back. Cherry may be down, but she hasn't danced her last number. As the invalids quickly become enraged aggressors, Cherry and Wray lead a team of accidental warriors into the night, hurtling towards a destiny that will leave millions infected, countless dead, and a lucky few struggling to find the last safe corner on the planet.
Death Proof begins with a girls' night out as Austin's hottest DJ, Jungle Julia (Sydney Tamiia Poitier), unwinds with two of her closest friends (Jordan Ladd and Vanessa Ferlito). This three-fox posse turns heads from Guero's to the Texas Chili Parlor, but not all of the attention is innocent. Covertly tracking their moves is Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell), a scarred, weathered rebel who leers from behind the wheel of his muscle car. As the girls settle into their beers, Mike's weapon, a white-hot juggernaut, revs just feet away. Later on, when he tries the same maneuvers on another group of girls (Zoe Bell, Rosario Dawson, Tracie Thoms and Mary Elizabth Winstead) Stuntman Mike gets more than he bargained for.
